新年の赤ちゃん

明けましておめでとうございます。
Baby New Year(新年の赤ちゃん)を知っていますか。

これは新年の象徴で、新聞などのマンガにも出てきます。
アメリカの人気クリスマスアニメにも出たことがあります。

色々な話がありますが、一番知られているのは「新年の赤ちゃんと時の翁」の話でしょう。
新年の赤ちゃんは年明けに生まれ、その年の担当を引き継ぎます。
赤ちゃんは、担当しているその一年で年老いて、次の年が来る前に「時の翁（Father Time）」というおじいさんになります。
そして次の新年の赤ちゃんが生まれた時に、その年の担当を譲り、サイクルは続いていきます。
何故か、赤ちゃんの姿かおじいさんの姿以外は、めったに見ることができません。

本物の赤ちゃんも「新年の赤ちゃん」になることができます。
年が明けて、最初に生まれた子供はよく「新年の赤ちゃん」と名付けられます。
そのようなタイトルだけをもらう場合もありますが、おむつ等のベビーグッズをもらう場合もあります。
赤ちゃんの名前が新聞に出ることも珍しくありません。

Have you heard of Baby New Year?

Baby New Year is the personification of the new year. He often appears in places like the editorial cartoon section of newspapers, and has even made an appearance in a popular American Christmas cartoon.

There are many stories about Baby New Year, but the most well known is probably that of Baby New Year and Father Time. At the start of the New Year, Baby New Year is born and takes over the duties of time. As his year progresses, the baby ages, and by the time the next year is approaching, he has become an old man, father time. When the next Baby New Year is born, he hands over the duties of time, continuing the cycle. You’ll almost never see him in a stage other than baby or old man.

Real people can also become the New Year’s Baby. The first baby born in a town, city, or even in a hospital is named Baby New Year. Sometimes it is just a title, but in some areas, families receive gifts of diapers and useful supplies for their new baby. The baby’s name may even appear in the local newspaper.
