Refuse Disposal and Collection


Yamaguchi City


Burnable Waste 燃やせるゴミ

Includes: kitchen refuse, litter, cloth, leather, plants, and plastic food containers, except paper containers and packing.

Burnable waste should be thrown out at the appropriate collection point, on the appropriate mornings for your area, before 8:30am, in the appropriate bag (available in convenience stores and supermarkets).

Visit the town hall for an English pamphlet about separating your rubbish, and a calendar with the collection days marked.


Non-burnable Waste 燃やせないゴミ

Includes: metal, glass, ceramics, ashes (must be dampened), small electrical appliances (excludes air-conditioners, televisions, refrigerators and washing machines), and plastics other than food trays and packing (buckets, coat hangers, Tupperware).

Non-burnable waste should be thrown out on the appropriate day of the month at your local collection point.

Spray cans should be punctured, batteries should be removed from electrical items, and broken glass and ceramics should be wrapped.


Recyclable Waste 資源物

Cans: food and drink cans only. Cans should be placed in the green containers on the appropriate day of the month.

Plastic bottles: soft drink and soy sauce bottles (bottle caps, oil and shampoo bottles etc should be disposed of with plastic containers). They should be washed, have the caps removed, and be crushed. Plastic bottles should be placed in the green containers on the appropriate day of the month.

Papers: paper, newspapers, magazines, paper containers/packing. Should be folded flat, stacked, and tied with paper twine. Separate them into paper containers and packing, newspapers and flyers, magazines and books, and corrugated cardboard. Papers should be placed in the appropriate containers (not green) on the appropriate day of the month.

Plastic containers: plastic bags, cling film, tubes, plastic cups, plastic bottles (shampoo etc). Should be rinsed and placed in transparent or semi-transparent bags, and thrown out on the appropriate day before 8:30am.

Burnable Waste 燃やせるゴミ

Includes: kitchen refuse, litter, cloth, leather, plants, plastic food containers, shampoo bottles etc, CDs and cassette tapes.

Burnable waste should be thrown out at the appropriate collection point, on the appropriate days for your area.

Visit the town hall for a pamphlet about separating your rubbish, and a calendar with the collection days marked.


Non-burnable Waste 燃やせないゴミ

Includes: metal, glass, ceramics, electrical appliances, gas stoves, heaters, batteries, and gas canisters (pierced). Sharp objects should be wrapped and marked. (Does not include anything over 50cm in length).

Non-burnable waste should be thrown out on the appropriate day of the month at your local collection point.


Recyclable Waste 資源物

Cans: food and drink cans only. Cans should be rinsed with water prior to disposal.

Plastic bottles: soft drink and soy sauce bottles (bottle caps, oil and shampoo bottles etc should be disposed of with burnable rubbish). They should be washed and have the caps removed.

Glass jars: Should be washed and separated into clear, brown, and other colors.

Papers: paper, newspapers, magazines, paper containers/packing. Should be folded flat, stacked, and tied with paper twine. Separate them into paper containers and packing, newspapers and flyers, magazines and books, and corrugated cardboard.


Others

Futons, tatami mats (cut in half), and bicycles may be disposed of at the Clean Center (Free if you take them yourself, or you can arrange collection for a fee).

Recyclable electrical goods (fridges, air conditioners, washing machines etc) can be disposed of at the Clean Center. It costs 1400yen if you take an item yourself, or 2300yen if you have it collected. There are also further recycling costs to add on to this, which depend on the item to be recycled. If buying a new replacement you may be able to arrange for the shop you are buying from to take what you are throwing away.
