An Introduction to Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Korea

Yamaguchi Prefecture and Gyeongsangnam-do Province formed an official sister-city relationship on June 26, 1987. The opening of the Shimonoseki – Pusan ferry route in 1970 led to increased interaction between the two, and after forming an official partnership, exchange flourished in the fields of fishery, tourism, and industry. In recent years, the two have focused on deepening cultural and sports exchanges between children, and exchanges to enhance skills in the fields of environmentalism, education, and communications. To celebrate the 15th year of their alliance in 2002, Governor Nii visited the Government Office in Gyeongsangnam-do to discuss future relations, such as strengthening ties amongst the citizens of Yamaguchi and Gyeongsangnam-do, and events were held in Yamaguchi commemorating the partnership and exchange.
