Preparation time: 40 minutes
Powdered pureed red bean paste 35～40 g
Water (for the powdered pureed red bean paste) 70～80 ml
Sugar 60～70 g
Powdered agar (kanten) 3g
Water (for the powdered agar) 220～230 ml
Arare mochi (grilled bits of rice cake) as needed
1.Thoroughly mix the powdered pureed red bean paste and water in a bowl.
2.Pour 220～230 ml of water in a pot, add the powdered agar, and mix over low heat. Once it comes to a boil, slightly lower the heat, and let it boil for 1 minute while bubbling.
3.Add the sugar and bean paste, and mix together for 3 minutes over low heat.
4.Place the pot in ice water, and let the mixture cool until it begins to thicken while you stir.
5.Briefly submerse a container in water so that its sides become wet, and pour the mixture from step 3 into that container. Place the container in the refrigerator and let the mixture harden for at least 30 minutes.
6.Cut the hardened mixture into 4 pieces and sprinkle with arare mochi.
