I have been invited to a Japanese wedding. I know I am supposed to give money but how much do I give and how do I go about this?

結婚祝金

Avoid giving amounts of money that can be divided in two. Amount varies from region to region and how close you are to the person so ask a coworker. 30,000 yen is a safe and reasonable amount of money. You may think it is expensive but remember that it covers food, drink, and other souvenirs. Give new, crisp notes which you can get at the bank. Lastly, there are also certain envelopes you should put the money in called Goshuugibukuro.
