Festivals in Shandong
One can learn a lot about a culture through a festival； the Shandong Providence holds several during the year.
The Qingdao International Beer Festival is a large-scale event is held during the second week of August for 2 weeks. The International Beer Festival started off in 1991 when Qingdao celebrated its 100th birthday. Major brewing companies from all over the world come to Qingdao to celebrate with beer, fireworks, and a parade. The festival encourages international exchange between Qingdao and people all over the world.
One of the most famous and extravagant festivals in China is the Qufu Confucius Culture Festival in Qufu City. Held every year between September 26 and October 10, it introduces Chinese culture to the world while celebrating the life and philosophy handed down by the Chinese educator Confucius. Some activities during the event include ceremonies in honor of Confucius, ancient Chinese dances, and theatrical performances.
Lastly, a fairly new festival is the Weihai International Habitat Festival. After receiving the United Nations Habitat Award in 2003, the Weihai Municipal Government established the festival the year after to promote international cooperation and exchange on improving living environment. Activities include a lantern show, a showcase on energy saving, and art shows.
