Yamaguchi Museum and Yamaguchi Art Museum
Yamaguchi Mueseum is the museum located right in Yamaguchi City. It opened in April of 1912 as the Bocho Educational Museum. A real steam engine is displayed outside. Most displays and demonstrations are of electricity or science but there are also specimens of living organisms, cultural heritage, and an astronomy room. Many events are held at the museum； in late ”April Frog Observation” and ”Observing Meiji Restoration through Printmaking” and on May 1st, there will be a session on how to make a leaf specimen.
Yamaguchi Art Museum is the prefectural art museum located right by the Yamaguchi Museum. Opened in 1979, this art museum displays donated pieces by Yasuo Kazuki, an artist from Yamaguchi Prefecture and works by Sesshu, Hougai Kano, and Wasaku Kobayashi. ”Heart” is a very popular gallery that has been held every year since 2007. Yamaguchi Art Museum will go under construction starting this year, therefore will be closed often. Please check their schedule before going to visit.
