One of Yamaguchi City’s sister cities is Jinan, which is the capital of Shandong Province in China. Yamaguchi City and Jinan formed their sister city relationship on September 20th, 1985. Yamaguchi Prefecture has a sister relationship with Shandong Province as well that began in 1982.
Jinan is known as the “City of Springs” because of the numerous springs within the city. The city’s official tree is the willow. The Yellow River is located north of Jinan and Mt. Tai is located south.
One of the three most famous spots in Jinan is Baotu Spring Park. The park is home to Baotu Spring, the most famous of Jinan’s 72 springs. The water temperature of the spring is 18 year round. The water from the spring is said to be perfect for making tea. Visitors can drink tea made with this water at a teahouse near the spring.
Another of Jinan’s three most famous spots is Daming Lake. Daming Lake is the largest lake in Jinan and contains six islands. The lake, which is located in the middle of Daming Lake Park, covers 46 hectares. Every July, the park hosts the Lotus Festival. Lotus flowers, which are the official flower of Jinan, are in full bloom at this time.
The final most famous spot is Thousand Buddha Mountain. The mountain, which was called Mt. Li in ancient times, is over 250 meters high. The mountain became known as Thousand Buddha Mountain during the early Sui Dynasty (581-600). During this time, Buddhism became popular, and numerous Buddhist statues were carved into rocks on the mountain.
