Yamaguchi Kenjinkai World Grand Meeting

大会の目的 Purpose

　在外山口県人会世界大会は、海外の山口県人会が一堂に集い、山口県人としての絆を確認し、県と県人会、県人会相互のつながりをより強めていくことを目的として開催しています。平成16年（2004年）に山口市で第1回大会を開催して以来、これまで4回開催しました。
　第5回大会は、新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響を踏まえ、令和3年（2021年）12月20日（月曜日）にオンラインにより開催しました。詳細は実施報告をご覧ください。
　また、第6回大会は、令和5年（2023年）7月28日～29日の日程で、アメリカ合衆国ハワイ州ホノルル市で開催しました。詳細は実施報告をご覧ください。

第4回大会 The 4th Grand Meeting

　第4回大会は、米国ロサンゼルスにある南加（なんか）山口県人会創立110周年を記念して、ロサンゼルスで開催しました。4ヶ国7県人会から過去最多となる190名(来賓含む)が参加しました。

To celebrate Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai’s 110th anniversary, the 4th Grand Meeting was held in Los Angeles, U.S.A. 190 participants (including guests) were hosted from 7 Kenjinkais from 4 countries.

　知事、県議会議長、各県人会の代表者による「代表者会議」を開き、次回大会を平成32年(2020年)に山口県で開催することが決定されました。
　また、若い世代の交流を活発化する必要があるとの認識で一致しました。

The Governor, Chairperson of the Prefectural Assembly and Kenjinkai Representatives attended the Kenjinkai Representatives’ Meeting and decided that the next Grand Meeting would be held in Yamaguchi in 2020.
Also, they agreed that more exchanges among the younger generation are needed.

　第1回官約移民から130年。多くの苦難を乗り越え、現在の確固たる地位を築くまでの御労苦に対し敬意。
　創立110周年を迎えた南加県人会では、世代交代に向けた取組を進めており、他の県人会でも参考にしていただきたい。
　「つながろう　県人会！　つながろう　山口！」をテーマに、大会を通じた絆の再確認と、次代を担う若者たちの交流が進むことを期待。
　県では、厳しい環境に立ち向かうチャレンジプランに基づく諸施策を推進。世界スカウトジャンボリーの開催による国際交流の機運の高まり。
　県人会との交流を深め、ふるさとの魅力を見つめ直し、誇りを持っていただける県づくりを推進。

This year marks the 130th year since the first Japanese immigration. I would like to express my deepest respect for those overcoming many obstacles and gaining the trust and dependence from their community overseas.
Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai, who is celebrating its 110th anniversary, has proposed many reforms aimed for the changing of generations. These will be good references for other Kenjinkais.
The theme of this Grand Meeting is “Let’s connect Kenjinkais! Let’s connect Yamaguchi”. I hope that you reaffirm these bonds through this event as well as advance exchanges among the younger generations.
Yamaguchi Prefecture is currently improving policies to combat against severe conditions with the plan “A challenge to move toward the future”. After the World Scout Jamboree held in Yamaguchi, there has been an increase in opportunities for international exchanges.
With growing exchanges among the Kenjinkais and Yamaguchi, we will rekindle the appeal of our home Yamaguchi and build a vibrant Prefecture one can be proud of.

　天使の街にようこそ。
　150年前の明治維新のとき、長州の若者たちが新しい日本を作った。伊藤博文以降、山口県のリーダーが日本をリード。今でも山口県人である安倍首相が日本をリード。
　安倍首相もロスに来られ、大成功を収めた。
　同じような気持ちが県人会の皆さん、山口県の人々の世界でのイメージを高めている。
　大会の成功と南加県人会の発展をお祈りする。

Welcome to the City of Angels
150 years ago, young leaders of Yamaguchi Prefecture, those in the Choshu Domain, created a new Japan. Since Ito Hirobumi, many leaders from Yamaguchi led Japan. Even today, the leader of Japan, Prime Minister Abe is from Yamaguchi Prefecture.
This year, he made an official trip to LA, and it was a great success.
Those same spirits are within all of the Kenjinkai members, spreading positive images of Yamaguchi Prefecture all around the world.
I would like to congratulate the hosts for a successful World Grand Meeting and Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai for its anniversary.

ブラジル山口県人会

Brazil Yamaguchi Kenjinkai

• 海外技術研修生OB、OGで、現在、青年部で活動している青年たちが紹介。
• 新年会、総会や青年部会議、県人会ピクニック、敬老会などの年間行事を紹介。安倍首相の県人会訪問やサッカーワールドカップの日本チームの応援など、特別行事も紹介。
• 新たな取組として、ブラジル国内の各支部訪問、メキシコ・ペルーの県人会訪問による交流の促進、日本からの観光客のサポートなども紹介。旅行を通じた交流を重要な取組と位置付け。
• 次代を担う青年部は、中国ブロック運動会、日本祭り、中国ブロックピクニックなどの主体的な取組を紹介。

Youth members who studied in Yamaguchi in the past introduced Brazil Yamaguchi Kenjinkai’s activities.
They introduced their annual events such as the Shinnenkai (New Year’s party), general meetings, youth meeting, picnic, Keiro kai (Respect for the elders) and special events such as Prime Minister Abe’s visit to the Kenjinkai and their support for FIFA World Cup Japan team.
They also showed new initiatives to visit other associations within Brazil and promote exchanges and visits with Mexico and Peru Kenjinkais, making important connections through traveling.
The youth who carry the next generation introduced other big events such as the Chugoku block sport’s day, Japanese festival, and Chugoku block picnic.

　新年会、ひなまつり、運動会など、県人会としての年間行事、ボーリングなどイベントを通じて親睦を図る青年部の取組やペルー山口学校を紹介。

They introduced annual Kenjinkai activities such as Shinnenkai (New Year’s Party), Hinamatsuri, and Undokai (Sports event). They also introduced Seinenbu (the youth group) activities such as bowling that help to build friendships. Lastly, they introduced Peru Yamaguchi School.

• 初参加となったホノルル山口県人会は、県人会の歴史、お花フェスティバルへの参加や大津緑洋高校との交流を紹介。
• 民謡に併せたフラダンスも披露

It was the first time Honolulu Yamaguchi Kenjinkai participated in the ceremony. They introduced their history and activities, such as participation in Ohana (Flower) Festival in Honolulu and exchanges with Otsu-ryokuyo high school.
They also performed hula with a traditional Japanese song.

　今年は、1905年に創立された南加山口県人会の110周年です。
Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai, founded in 1905, celebrated its 110th anniversary this year.

• 皆さんとともに山口県の精神やルーツを共有できることをとても誇りに思う。また、主催者として歓迎できることを大変うれしく思う。
• 参加者の皆さんが楽しめるよう、数か月間企画してきた。
• 110年前、我々の先祖は夢と期待を抱いてアメリカに移住。犠牲を払い、一生懸命働いて、新しい生活を切り拓いた。そのおかげで、今の我々が活動できている。
• 今日は、110年ではないが、県人会を支えて来られた80歳以上の方々を表彰したい。

I am very proud to share the spirit and roots of Yamaguchi with all of you. I welcome all of you here to this wonderful celebration.
We have been meeting for the past several months organizing this event with the hope you all enjoy these couple of days with us.
110 years ago our forefathers left Yamaguchi and came to America with many hopes and dreams. They sacrificed and worked very hard to make United States their new home. They set the foundation for the future generations to flourish. We are indebted to them and very grateful.
Although not 110 years old, we would like to recognize and welcome our over 80 elders—those who have supported Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai.

(3)中村元会長による活動紹介 Report on activities by Former President Nakamura

• もちまき、カラオケ、炭坑節、水風船投げゲーム、二人三脚など、世代を超えて楽しめるよう、様々なイベントを行う夏恒例のピクニックを紹介。
• 山口県の選手も出場したスペシャルオリンピックスのバスケット日本女子代表チームの応援。
• 「ちょるる」の飾りつけをした七夕祭りへの参加。
• 敬老の日の老人ホームでの行事なども紹介。

She introduced Nanka’s most well-attended event that those of all ages can enjoy, the annual summer picnic. Other events include mochimaki, karaoke, Tanko bushi, water balloon toss, and the three-legged race.
Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai supported the Special Olympics Nippon Women’s Basketball Team.
They participated in the Tanabata Festival in which they decorated Yamaguchi’s Mascot “Choruru”.
They introduced events at a nursing home for “Keiro no Hi” (Respect for the Aged Day).

　役員として、長きにわたる南加県人会の運営に尽力された方々9名に対し、村岡知事から表彰状と記念品として大内塗丸盆を贈呈しました。

Governor Muraoka recognized the outstanding efforts of those who have played an active role in Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai, and they were presented with one of Yamaguchi’s traditional handcrafts, an Ouchi-lacquered round bowl.

　また、75歳以上の方々26名に御長寿をお祝いし、記念品として、毎日の食事を楽しく、いつまでも元気でいらしてくださいという願いを込めた大内塗長寿箸を贈呈しました。

The longevity of the 26 members, over 75 years old, was celebrated. As a gift, they were presented “longevity chopsticks” with the hopes of their being able to enjoy their meals every day and stay energetic forever.

　現在、パンアメリカン（北米・中南米）日系人協会の要職を務め、世界大会を引き受けていただいた南加山口県人会の吉本会長に対し、村岡知事から感謝状と山口県伝統工芸品三種セットを贈呈しました。

Governor Muraoka presented President Yoshimoto who has been a part of The Pan American Nikkei Association and also accepted the task of hosting this year’s World Grand Meeting. As a gift, he was presented with Yamaguchi Prefecture’s 3-set traditional art pieces: Hagi pottery, Ouchi lacquerware, and an Akama inkstone.

　県人会の次代を担う若者たちが集まり、和太鼓、ジャグリング、金魚ちょうちんづくりなどのワークショップを通じて交流しました。
