1　労働力調査（ろうどうりょくちょうさ）とは？　What is the Labour Force Survey?

　労働力調査（ろうどうりょくちょうさ）は、日本政府（にほんせいふ）が　行（おこな）っている　統計調査（とうけいちょうさ）の　一（ひと）つです。　日本（にほん）の　全世帯（ぜんせたい）を　代表（だいひょう）するように　選（えら）ばれた　約（やく）4万世帯（まんせたい）を　対象（たいしょう）に　総務省統計局（そうむしょうとうけいきょく）が　都道府県（とどうふけん）を　通（つう）じて　毎月（まいつき）　行（おこな）っている　調査（ちょうさ）です。
　The Labour Force Survey is one of the statistical surveys conducted by the Japanese government. The Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications conducts this survey every month through prefectures. It is conducted on about 40,000 households selected as the samples of all households in Japan.

　この調査（ちょうさ）では、日本（にほん）の　住民（じゅうみん）のうち、15歳以上（さいいじょう）の人（ひと）を　調査（ちょうさ）します。
　15歳（さい）以上（いじょう）の人のうち、働（はたら）くことのできる人（ひと）は　どのくらいいるか、そのうち　実際（じっさい）に　働（はたら）いている人（ひと）は　どのくらいいて　何時間（なんじかん）くらい　働（はたら）いているか、あるいは　働（はたら）きたくても　仕事（しごと）がないため、仕事（しごと）を　探（さが）している人（ひと）は　どのくらいいるかを　調（しら）べます。
　そして、これらの人々（ひとびと）が経済（けいざい）や　社会（しゃかい）の　動（うご）きにつれて　月々（つきづき）　どのように変化（へんか）するかを　見（み）て　分析（ぶんせき）し、雇用問題（こようもんだい）や　失業問題（しつぎょうもんだい）などの　解決（かいけつ）に　役立（やくだ）てることを　調査（ちょうさ）の　目的（もくてき）としています。
　This survey covers the persons aged fifteen or older and living in Japan. The objective of the survey is to help solve employment and unemployment problems by examining how many persons are able to work, how many of them are actually working, how many hours they are working, how many persons have no job and seeking one, and how the number of these people changes month by month in response to changes in business and social conditions.

　毎月（まいつき）　公表（こうひょう）される　労働力調査（ろうどうりょくちょうさ）の　結果（けっか）は、新聞（しんぶん）、テレビ、ラジオ等（とう）を　通（つう）じて　広（ひろ）く　一般（いっぱん）に　報道（ほうどう）される　ほか、各種（かくしゅ）の　計画（けいかく）や　施策（せさく）の　基礎資料（きそしりょう）として　利用（りよう）されています。
　The results of the Labour Force Survey announced each month are reported to the public via newspapers, TV, radio and other media and utilized as the basic data necessary for various programs and policy measures.

2　調査期間（ちょうさきかん）Reference period （（調査週間（ちょうさしゅうかん））Reference week）

　調査（ちょうさ）は、毎月（まいつき）末日（まつじつ）現在（げんざい）で　行（おこな）います。
　12月（がつ）は、26日（にち）　現在（げんざい）で　行（おこな）います。
　The survey is conducted as of the last day of each month, however, in December it is done as of the 26th.

　就業（しゅうぎょう）の　状況（じょうきょう）については、　 毎月（まいつき）　末日（まつじつ）を　最終日（さいしゅうび）とする　1週間（しゅうかん）（調査週間（ちょうさしゅうかん））の　状況（じょうきょう）を　調査（ちょうさ）します。
　12月（がつ）は、12月（がつ）　20日（にち）　～　26日（にち）です。
　The reference period to which questions on the employment status refer is one week ending on the last day of each month except December for which it is the one week from 20th to 26th.

　調査期間（ちょうさきかん）は、最初（さいしょ）の　年（とし）に　2か月（げつ）、次（つぎ）の　年（とし）の　同（おな）じ　2か月（げつ）、合（あ）わせて　4か月（げつ）です。
　The period of survey is two months in the first year and the same two months in the next year, for a total of four months.

3　調査（ちょうさ）の　範囲（はんい） the scope of the survey

　調査（ちょうさ）の　範囲（はんい）は、日本（にほん）に　居住（きょじゅう）している　全人口（ぜんじんこう）です。
　ただし、外国政府（がいこくせいふ）の　外交使節団（がいこうしせつだん）、 領事機関（りょうじきかん）の　構成員（こうせいいん）　（随員（ずいいん）を　含（ふく）む）　及（およ）び　その家族（かぞく）、 外国軍隊（がいこくぐんたい）の　軍人（ぐんじん）・　軍属（ぐんぞく）　（その家族（かぞく）を含（ふく）む）は　対象外（たいしょうがい）です。
　The scope of the survey is composed of all persons usually residing in this country, except foreign diplomatic and consular corps, their family members and foreign military personnel and their family members.

4　調査票（ちょうさひょう） the Questionnaire

• 基礎調査票（きそちょうさひょう）　the Basic Questionnaire
  調査期間（ちょうさきかん）の　間（あいだ）、世帯（せたい）は　基礎調査票（きそちょうさひょう）に　記入（きにゅう）する必要（ひつよう）があります。

• 特定調査票（とくていちょうさひょう） the Special Questionnaire
  2年目（ねんめ）2か月（げつ）に、世帯（せたい）は　基礎調査票（きそちょうさひょう）に　加（くわ）え　特定調査票（とくていちょうさひょう）を　記入（きにゅう）する必要（ひつよう）があります。
  ​The households are requested to fill out the Special Questionnaire in addition to the Basic Questionnaire in the second month of the second year.

　調査対象世帯（ちょうさたいしょうせたい）は、2つのグループに　分（わ）けられ　次（つぎ）のように　調査（ちょうさ）されます。
