Introducing the Caledonian Sky’s Visit to Hagi
The British cruise ship, the Caledonian Sky, visited the Port of Hagi on April 17, 2015.
A Warm Welcome
Students from Hagi Koen High School joined the staff from the Nagato and Hagi City Tourism Divisions to greet the Caledonian Sky. Each passenger received tourism information about Hagi and Nagato, as well as one of Hagi’s specialties, Chinese Citron sweets.
Students from Hagi Koen High School took charge of the welcoming ceremony in English and introduced the city of Hagi. Koji Nomura, the Mayor of Hagi gave a welcome speech and Yonehara Shachu performed Otokonara, a local dance. Passengers then set out to explore the city and enjoy the beautiful weather.
You can see cruise ships docked at the Port of Hagi from close up, so many of the local residents came to admire the Caledonian Sky. A class from Koshigahama Elementary School came to sketch the ship and even got an impromptu lesson on cruise ships from a member of the prefecture’s Ports & Harbors Division. It was wonderful to see how interested they were.
Local Goods and a Big Send-off
In the afternoon, there were various local souvenirs for sale including a local pottery called Hagi-yaki, local sweets called uiro, and blowfish rice crackers.
At 6 o’clock, the Caledonian Sky left for the Port of Ulsan in South Korea.
