Pacific Venus makes a port of call to Ube Port for the first time in 7 years!
On Thursday, October 19, 2017, Pacific Venus made a port of call to Ube Port for the first time in 7 years.
Ube Port was chosen as the final cruise destination for Pacific Venus’ annual autumn cruise around Japan. Passengers were able to enjoy tourism within Yamaguchi Prefecture such as the Ube Biennale (currently the Japan Sculpture Exhibit) which is held once every 2 years in Tokiwa Park.
At the wharf, local kindergarteners performed a song to welcome passengers. In addition, Ube City Mayor Kimiko Kubota and other locals welcomed the cruise ship, and at the wharf, passengers sampled local Ube prawns and were able to buy specialty products until the last day. In addition, planters filled with salvia were placed along the pier to represent “Ube, the city of greenery, flowers, and sculptures” at the port.
During the departure, both passengers and locals held penlights and sang enthusiastically the “farewell words” of the past Kaientai group. As Pacific Venus left the port, you could hear “Thank you!” from passengers aboard the ship, enveloping Ube Port with a heart-warming scene.
