Yamaguchi Prefecture, a key location in western Japan, is home to many spots that prompt reflection on peace and war.

（西日本の要衝である山口県には、平和と戦争について考えさせられるスポットが数多く存在します。）

〇Kaiten Memorial Museum／回天記念館

The Kaiten was a tragic suicide weapon developed during World War II.

（回天は第二次世界大戦中に開発された悲劇の特攻兵器です。）

This weapon involved soldiers boarding torpedoes and ramming them into enemy ships. Training for piloting these Kaiten was conducted on Ōtsushima Island in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

（この兵器は兵士が魚雷に乗り込んで艦船に体当たりするものであり、山口県周南市の大津島ではその操縦訓練が行われていました。）

Currently, there is ”Kaiten Memorial Museum” on Ōtsushima where visitors can learn about the preciousness of peace through the Kaiten.

〇Mutsu Memorial Museum​／陸奥記念館

​​The Mutsu was completed in 1921 as one of the world's leading battleships, but sank on June 8, 1943, during World War II off the coast of Suo-Oshima, Yamaguchi Prefecture, due to an unexplained explosion, taking 1,121 crew members with it.

（「陸奥」は世界有数の戦艦として1921年に竣工しましたが、第二次世界大戦中の1943年6月8日、山口県周防大島沖で原因不明の爆発により乗組員1,121名と共に沈没しました。）

After the war, the remains and personal effects of crew members and officers, along with a large portion of the hull, were salvaged from the seabed. Some of these items are displayed at the Mutsu Memorial Museum on Suo-Oshima Island as relics symbolizing the wish for lasting peace.

（戦後、将兵の遺骨や遺品、艦体の大部分が海底から引き揚げられ、これらの品の一部は、恒久平和を願って、周防大島の陸奥記念館に展示されています。）
