Choshu Dejima underwent wharf construction and since April 2018, has been able to receive cruise ships at 220,000 gross tons. Immediately after the construction of the wharf on the beautiful day of Friday, April 20, the Quantum of the Seas, carrying around 5,000 passengers, made its first visit to Shimonoseki.
In order to commemorate the cruise ship’s first visit to the area, the Construction Completion Report and the Welcome Ceremony of the Quantum of the Seas’ Visit were held at Choshu Dejima.
Many of the passengers came from China, and they enjoyed tourist activities such as eating sushi from Karato Market and visiting Akama Shrine.
From 4 in the afternoon, there were Heike Japanese drumming and Heike dancing performances as well as goods for sale at the wharf. Passengers enjoyed taking commemorative photos and shopping.
