About Yamaguchi
Yamaguchi Prefecture, located on the western tip of Honshu Island,is surrounded by the ocean on three sides. Its long coasts are lined with ports both big and small, and moving inland, one can find a trove of historical and natural treasures. With a temperate climate and few earthquakes, Yamaguchi is a very comfortable place to live, with a long history that served as the stage to some of the great changes in Japanese history. Shimonoseki saw the turning point in the transition from an aristocracy to a samurai society when Genji and Heike fought in the Battle of Dan-no-ura, and Hagi played a leading role in the Meiji Restoration nearly 150 years ago. You can still see the romantic historical scenery traveling through Yamaguchi today.
